Purl Lambed!

We've got babies! Purl lambed early this morning. I found her twin lambs at 6:30 when I went out to feed. They were still wet, but up and walking around.

She had a white ewe lamb, and a natural colored (black) ram lamb! She's a very good mother so far.

Of course I had to work today (darn it!) but I dipped their navels in iodine and made sure they nursed. Purl's colostrum was so thick it was hard for them to nurse it out. I ended up visiting a goat-owning neighbor, who let me milk out a doe that kidded yesterday (but lost the kids). I gave the lambs a little goat milk, and then milked Purl out into a syringe best I could and gave them that as well. I was probably being a little paranoid, but I wanted to make sure they were going to be ok while I was at work.

They're both really cute. Although what newborn lambs aren't cute?

I wish this was in focus!

None of other animals seem to care much about the babies. I did happen to catch Cogburn mid-crow. At 5:30 pm. He's backwards.

Hopefully I can get some better pictures tomorrow. The flash was doing weird things.

Yay for babies!

Congratulations, Katie!! They're adorable!! I wish I lived closer so I could come snuggle with them :) Way to go, Purl! How is their nursing going this afternoon?
Any thoughts on names yet?? :)

Wow, Becky, that was quick! Nursing was a little better this afternoon. I gave them some Ultra Start, which is a colostrum supplement, this afternoon. I'm sure they're going to be fine! Her colostrum had thinned out slightly. Maybe by tomorrow her milk will come in and they can nurse easier.

No thoughts on names yet...any suggestions?

I LOVE them Katie!!! They are sooooo cute! Great job Purl hon! Purl may be a little off because of the move into the barn garage. But I bet she'll be nursing those babies really good tomorrow! I will have to think of some good names for the little salt and pepper babies..... Maybe Ebony and Ivory. he he he I wish I was there to snuggle with them! Love you, Momma

Well, since Purl's name is a knitting term... here are a few other knitting terms that might be cute...
Aran (erin), Cable, Cashmere, Chevron, Argyle, Bobble..

Jon said Jingle and Babbit were the first two names that came to mind. Helpful, isn't he?

What beautiful babies. I guess they really do this on their own. What a great surprise for you to find them doing so well. I get more and more excited with each delivery.

Who needs a giggleing lamb in focus - she made me laugh out loud!

I like Cashmere and Argyle (or Snow and Flake). Maybe you should wait for their personalities to develop.

Katie they are so cute. Are you sure you want to keep them? Lisa says she wants lamb chops. Just kidding. I can't think of names for them. I'm so happy for you that your flock is growing. Love you
