Look What I Found

Last Tuesday I walked in to the back yard and something caught my eye. I turned to see a little gray kitten near the hay shed. I had no idea where it had come from, because we're surrounded by farmland on our side of the road, and the 2 houses across the road don't have pets (as far as I know). It was little enough to make me wonder if there was a whole litter, but I hadn't seen any other cats in our yard besides the 2 of ours that go out.
I put a dish of food out because the poor little thing looked thin. My sister was able to sneak up on it and catch it, but the kitten was able to wriggle free before Becky could get it in a crate.

The rest of the week and over the weekend I fed the kitten twice a day, each day normally only catching a glimpse of the kitten before it would dart back into hiding.

Finally, Monday I was able to borrow a trap from my coworker. I set the trap and within a half hour I'd caught the kitten!

Turns out she's a girl! I set her up in the bathroom with food and water and a litter box. She was very scared!

Yesterday I gave her some Pedialyte
because she was slightly dehydrated. She also ate some canned food off my finger. After that I flea combed her (luckily she didn't have too many fleas) and she really enjoyed that. She started relaxing a bit and started purring!

Today she has an appointment to get tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). Hopefully she is negative for both. If she is negative, then I don't need to worry about her spreading anything to my cats, and she can come out of the bathroom when she is a little more tame and settled. I'll update you on her status after I get her tested today. I'm not sure if we'll be keeping her or trying to find a home for her. I'm not sure we need or want a fourth cat....but she sure is cute.

She's so cute :) I'm glad she's not as wild as I first thought. She just didn't appreciate when I grabbed her by the scruff. ;)
She sure is cute. What would Chili think of a sister?? :) Good luck with the appt. today!

I just thought about something... if you kept her, that would mean that you would have two male cats that are orange tabby... and two female cats that are gray. If this kitten was a tuxedo like Chili, it would be perfect!

I thought about that too, Becky! I'd have matched sets. LOL

Good luck at the vet! Take it from me - 4 cats is no worse than 3!

Nicely done! Someone gifted us with a cat about a month ago. We now call her Mouse (grey and white). She is now spayed with all her shots and one of the family. Seems she has had a litter in the past. Four cats sounds good. We are back up to 6. Good luck.
