I need help.

Here is our house.

I love it, but it needs some pizazz. I want to make shutters, but I'm so indecisive when it comes to making decisions I thought I'd get your help in picking a color. I'd like to make cottage style shutters like these. Or at least something similar to that. I'd also like to paint the doors (front door and side door) some color in the red family.

So which of these colors (if any) do you like? Which do you hate? If you hate all of them, do you have any other suggestions for what might look nice?

I just grabbed these quickly at Lowe's the other day. I can certainly pick other ones if none of these look right!

In case you can't tell by the pics, the house is cream colored, not white. It's not exactly yellow, but *almost* a yellowish tinted cream. Clear as mud, right?

Katie,
Your house is adorable! I love the big tree in the front yard. I was thinking red for the doors and shutters but then I grabbed my book, The Farmhouse by Jean Rehkamp Larson. It is falling apart we have looked at it so much. It was our building resource. None of the white farmhouses had shutters! Ok, 1 did and they were dark green. All the others, mostly white, were without. Hmmm...On second thought, I'm not sure you need them. If you do decide to put them on, I would put them on the two front windows and the bumpout front window only. Your house doesn't need them for pizazz though. I think if a farmhouse makes a statement it should say, "fresh, clean, simple, & welcome." Your white house does that without shutters.

Thanks for the input, Kim! I was also thinking the 2 front windows and possibly that bumpout front window just like you said.

So what do you think for door colors?

I like the deepest blue or the deepest green for the shutters and maybe the same color for the door? I'm not sure a red door with a different color shutter (my normal favorite) would give you the cottage feeling you're going for. So, maybe by picking the same color for the doors and the shutters will make it feel more cottage-y? Gosh, I don't know... I'm bad at this. :)

Your house is so cute! I vote for the darkest blue. Now I'm a pink girl so I also like the 2nd to darkest pink ;)

I like the darkest blue on the three patch paint chip on the right - bottom color. My favorite red for your door is the three patch in the middle- bottom red. I also like the dark green if you don't like the blue. The softer colors will give you more of a cottage appeal. I love your design for shutters!! I think you are right on track for a lovely house hon! Hugs, Momma

I'm with Deb, I like the darkest blue on the top right but I would paint the door that color and paint the shutters one of the lighter versions of the same.

Katie, I would go with a med blue for the shutters and a red for the door. what makes a house stand out are three colors. But I'm not good and choosing the three colors. Good luck! love you.

middle green on left of centre, or the blue on the right at the same level. I'd go for all the windows and doors the same colour!
